HARLAN -- Members of the Harlan Community baseball and softball teams joined together to send a message to Cyclone Activities Director Mitch Osborn as part of this week’s “Green Out” for cancer awareness. Osborn, who continues his battle with cancer, was presented with a poster of the above photo by the Cyclone seniors prior to Tuesday’s home games vs. St. Albert.

 HARLAN -- Approximately $3,000 was raised for the Shelby County Relay for Life through the efforts of Harlan Community’s annual Green Out Night, held in conjunction with Tuesday’s HCHS vs. St. Albert baseball and softball games. The event was hosted by this year’s six senior players - Nolan Heese, Kyle Juhl, Brett Croghan, Logan Schaben, Emily Juhl and Julia Sorfonden.

 ATLANTIC -- Alexis Handel homered and drove in five runs Monday night as the Atlantic softball team crushed Harlan Community 10-1 to avenge an early-season loss to the Cyclones. Highlighted by a five-run second, the Trojans (18-10 overall, 10-4 Hawkeye Ten) scored in all but one inning and outhit HCHS 12-8, also taking advantage of five errors.

 AREA -- The AHSTW baseball team advanced to the semifinals of the Western Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament with a pair of wins on Monday, beating Riverside 13-4 in first-round action before topping host Tri-Center 9-4 in a quarterfinal.

 SHENANDOAH -- The Harlan Community softball team welcomed back last year’s ace pitcher and recorded its first doubleheader sweep of the season Thursday night, beating Shenandoah 11-4 and 16-2 (six innings) to improve to 7-8 inside the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Lexi Larsen and Logan Schaben both homered on the night and combined for 10 hits and 11 RBI as HCHS (11-14 overall) exploded for 40 hits and 27 runs overall.

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Julia Sorfonden’s first home run of the season highlighted a three-hit, three-RBI night for the Cyclone catcher as Harlan Community won at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 11-4 in non-conference softball action on Wednesday. HCHS put up six runs in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead and added three for insurance in the seventh, outhitting the Lynx 12-6 and committing just one error on defense.

 IRWIN -- During a week in which they outscored five other opponents 89-10 over the course of seven wins, the IKM-Manning softball team may have gained the most confidence from an 8-4 loss to Logan-Magnolia Thursday night. Sixteen days after losing to the Panthers 10-2 in Logan, the 12th-ranked Wolves stayed within striking distance of Class 2-A’s No.

 KIMBALLTON -- A three-run third inning keyed Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton’s 4-1 softball win over Adair-Casey on Thursday as part of the Spartans’ three-game win streak to end the week. They also beat Woodbine on Wednesday and C-A-M on Thursday. Maggie Rasmussen pitched a five-hitter against the Bombers, walking one and striking out eight.

 SHENANDOAH -- An eight-run fifth inning carried the Harlan Community baseball team to victory Thursday as the third-ranked Cyclones improved to 12-3 inside the Hawkeye Ten Conference with a 12-7 win at Shenandoah. Josh Cheek, Nick Tarney and Ryan Doran drove in three runs each for HCHS and Tarney belted his first home run of the year to go with a double and three runs scored. HCHS led 11-1 after five and a half innings before the Mustangs (6-

 HARLAN -- With all six of its hits confined to the fourth and fifth innings, Harlan Community found other ways to score during Monday night’s 12-3 baseball win over Denison-Schleswig. The Cyclones drew nine walks, were hit-by-pitch four times and stole 12 bases in a game that featured a 30-minute lightning delay prior to the fifth. Brett Sears (4-0) battled through four innings on the mound to earn the win, allowing five hits and three runs.
